Overview

  1. Administers the Environmental Management System and manages the ISO 14001 certification process to protect or improve environmental quality, hazardous control and ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Serves as the subject matter expert in relation to environmental matters providing guidance and positive interactions with company personnel, the Customer, external agencies, and other site contractors.
  2. Maintains practices, procedures and policies to ensure company compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) regulations and federal, state and local laws.  Plans and implements program goals and objectives.  Devises and implements methods for evaluating program. Participates in sitewide planning and evaluation.  Reviews company Level I procedures to ensure compliance with directives, regulations and statutes to avoid penalties. 
  3. Conducts studies to identify and evaluate environmental hazards. Ensures compliance with Environmental Programs through audits and assessments. Recommends corrective actions. Performs or participates in facility and operations walk downs, assessments or drills and exercises. Fulfills Environmental Compliance Authority (ECA) responsibilities for Centerra-SRS.
  4. Oversees collection and disposal of items including batteries, tires, aerosol cans, used oil, scrap wood, scrap metal, expired and damaged ammunition. Manages Centerra’s Satellite Accumulation Areas. Reviews and approves purchase requisition to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  5. Ensures Environmental Aspects are developed and communicated to the workforce. Coordinates the effective process of annual Registration by external ISO 14001 Auditors.  Coordinates agenda and document review with the external auditors.  Participates in the Annual ISO 14001 Self - Assessment.
  6. Conducts annual respirator fit tests, utilizes respirator fit test equipment, cleans respirators, maintains records concerning respiratory protection and performs maintenance and repairs on respirators. Submits respirator fit test results daily to the Training Division.  Submits Restriction List additions and removals for respirator fit testing to the Training Division, when necessary.
  7. Resolves complex policy and business issues. Integrates department activities with other operations.  Provides timely feedback to senior management on compliance efforts.  Serves as liaison with external organizations.  Fosters environmental awareness and safety by actively promoting environmental awareness and safety practices in personal behavior and business operations.  Conducts a biannual Environmental Management System Review for Senior Management.
  8. Briefs and coordinates Centerra personnel who serve as Chemical Custodians for their Division/Department. Ensures Safety Data Sheet books are current, conducts the Annual Tier II Chemical inventory, and reports the inventory into the site database.
  9. Must perform all responsibilities for environment, safety and health as defined in Procedure 1-3100 and adhere to the principles and functions of Integrated Safety Management.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities & Other Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Health/Science, Environmental Management or Hazardous Materials Management; OR an Associate’s degree in Environmental Health or related discipline and the equivalent combination of formal training and related professional work experience.
  2. Three years of experience assessing, studying and developing preventive measures or solutions to environmental hazards.
  3. Associate Environmental Professional or Environmental Specialist Certification is preferred.
  4. Ability to obtain/maintain appropriate DOE L security clearance.

Interview Process and Length:

The interview process will last approximately 1 hour and consists of the following:

  • Panel interview - 30 minutes
  • Practical exercise – 30 minutes
